Overall, The Early Pregnancy Unit was very good to us on our visit and are taking the utmost care of my wife. I was however disappointed with a couple of things and unfortunately they both refer to one person. To tell a woman who might be miscarrying their baby, midway through an internal ultrasound, "if you remember what I said at the beginning of your examination" in a fairly patronising tone wasn't needed. Secondly, when dealing with a pregnancy of unknown location where the woman has experienced bleeding and you have been unable to identify whether there is a viable foetus or not, why would you say "please wait in the counselling room" and then leave us to wait for a colleague?! We were left wondering why we would need counselling unless it was likely to be a miscarriage - maybe a different name or term for the room would be useful to save others thinking the worst. The person in question I have no doubt is competent at their job but lacked the empathy today that was clearly demonstrated by their other colleagues.

Could not find water dispenser in clinic 4, had to interrupt nurse & doctor to ask. Maybe a notice near the coffee machine? Had a problem at the pharmacy, which is hopefully being sorted out. (instructions on my tablets don't seem to match instructions given to me by doctor.) All staff very kind and helpful. (At my first appointment in December, which was 6 months after referral from my GP, I was told I should be seen in 3 months to review medication (which in fact had to be changed). The appointment I was sent was for mid- June! I then spent 3 weeks phoning every day to find any cancellations to bring this forward. Was told on 2 occasions by appointments clerk (different person every time) that I was "only allowed to change appointment twice" - somebody more timid would probably have been discouraged from persisting.)

I have had a number of visits to this hospital over the past 18 months and have been mostly well looked after, consultation with a cardiology Dr in outpatients being the exception. On a negative note the appointments system is a total shambles and I have had to chase up appointments on numerous occasions.

I have become something of a regular at the Royal Surrey in recent months as a result of a number of health issues and have always found all staff friendly and welcoming despite the considerable pressures that they are operating under.

I was admitted to RSH last week suffering from a severe Cellulitis infection. Given how busy the hospital was the way I was processed and admitted was excellent. Great attention and really good communication. Almost immediately a strategy was established to admit me, get on IV drugs then discharge me into the care of home visiting nurses who would continue the dispensing of the drugs and ongoing care. This was not easy to organise but went smoothly apart from the fact that I was given the wrong type of antibiotics which led to an extra unnecessary night in a precious hospital bed. Apart from that the level of care was outstanding. My only gripe - and it is a big one - was that I only witnessed cursory cleaning session in the ward over 2 days. Secondly the toilets were not cleaned. By my second night they were in a terrible state and given the serious infection I told the staff I would not use it. Reluctantly a nurse gave it a 10 second which was totally inadequate and did not include the emptying of a overflowing waste bin. If is this point alone that gas driven my scores down. The care on Hindhead ward was superb but the cleanliness and hygiene really worried and surprised me. I would be happy to discuss my experience further if anyone wants to contact me : 07789 000593

Generally speaking my experience as an inpatient was good. However the patient experience could be improved by a little more attention being paid to the in ward toilets facilities which in some cases had paint peeling of the walls and were not quite as clean as they could be. Also some of the reading lamps over the beds did not work properly and when this was mention to the staff on the ward we were informed that engineers were aware of the problem but nothing had been done giving the impression that it was not a priority. The nursing staff were great at all times and nothing was too much trouble

The care and attention i received in the The Royal County was by far the best i could ask for especially in ITU and The Acute dependency Ward and Elstead Ward all three wards were kind and the staff were brilliant, they gave their all and all patients were looked after very well i would well recommend this Hospital.
